Nick Van Slett
Nick hails from the land of cheese, beer and bratwurst. He started unofficially working at JP's in 2002 when his roommate at Hope College took too long to get back from work (Nick had to help out by voluntarily sweeping and mopping). He later met with JP's manager and with much heartfelt pleading (and a large cash bribe) was admitted to the JP's staff.
After taking a three year hiatus working in the "real world," Nick has rejoined the crew. He attends Western Seminary, learning the interlacing intricacies of theology and coffee, and works at JP's learning to interlace the intricacies of the espresso machine and finely ground espresso.
A few of Nick's credentials include but are not limited to::- Barista since 2004.
- On JP's Barista Committee.
- Helped organize and execute the first Great Lakes Barista Jam.
- Working to create a place where coffee and tea can coexist as friends.
- Nick started drinking coffee in the 3rd grade when he did so behind his father's back. After a church service he snuck coffee because it was an "adult" drink.
- Has a BA in religion and philosophy and is currently working on his M. Div.
Says Nick,"To be a barista is to be a modern day alchemist, being able to take common raw materials and turn it into liquid gold."."
